WHAT TO EXPECT
“I’d never done anything like this before - I wish I’d known about it thirty years ago, I’d have come every year"
Chester Choral Week takes place over a week – from Sunday afternoon to Saturday morning.
Within that week are timetabled sessions:
Chamber Choir rehearsals in preparation for the Choral Concord Concert, that takes place in the St Thomas of Canterbury Church, close to the university campus
You’ll spend your time learning the NEFCho choral works and Chamber Group pieces and this is likely to involve singing music that’s unfamiliar or new. Rehearsing for several hours each day does require some pacing and listening to your body and looking after your own wellbeing.
Singing in this way can be physically demanding, but choral directors are on hand to ensure that you are warming up your voice and looking after yourself with plenty of hydration and stretching.
Masterclasses, singing lessons and free time is also programmed. Mealtimes and refreshment breaks are frequent. In 2024 there was a Gala Dinner to celebrate CCW’s 30th anniversary.
